The Institutional Advancement Department (IA) is crucial to the success of Center Theatre Group, with responsibility for raising 35% of the revenues each year and supporting the work of the Board of Directors. As such the IA Department is at the core of communicating the Company’s mission and building a broad base of community support. Under the 18-year leadership of its Director, Yvonne Bell, the department has a remarkable track record of success. Center Theatre Group is now in the quiet phase of a Capital Campaign, which includes a new building to house all operational and rehearsal activities.Position SummaryReporting to the Director of Institutional Advancement, as one of the two senior leaders, the Director will work closely with the Deputy Director of Development, other Senior Staff, and the Board of Directors to insure Center Theatre Group’s financial sustainability through fundraising. This position provides management and strategy for, and ensures effective and efficient implementation of all Institutional Advancement Operations functions including: prospect research, financial management and reporting, advancement communications, gift processing and acknowledgment and department budgeting. Develops, inspires and supports a team of professional operations staff.Primary Responsibilities
Provide leadership around data analysis for the study/use of data for advancement performance. Ensure data integrity, access, and quality/understandable presentations and reports to senior management and the Board of Directors. Develop strong partnerships with all areas of Advancement, and participate in department-wide planning. Develop and implement single year operational plans for advancement services. Maintain close relationships with Finance to ensure financial integrity of advancement numbers and seamless tracking/reporting. Maintain close relationship with Marketing to ensure an integrated approach to solicitation of and communication to Center Theatre Group patrons. Serve as Direct Supervisor for Associate Director of Advancement Communications, Associate Director Special Events, Manager Stewardship and Donor Relations, Manager Prospect Management and Reporting, and Manager Gift Processing. Set policies and procedures for Operations areas including donor data maintenance in Tessitura CPM, reports, monitoring tax-law, donor cultivation/solicitation/stewardship industry standards, and other regulations related to the management of private personal information.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred. Seven-ten years of related experience in advancement and advancement operations, preferably within a performing arts environment. Demonstrated project management experience and a well-articulated project management philosophy. Ability to explain complex technical ideas and information to non-technical people through conversation, presentation and visually. Knowledge of modern data management practices and techniques including data-based computerized information systems, data modeling, and models of analysis that leads to effective decision making on behalf of the program. Tessitura experience preferred. Proven record of leadership, management and supervisory skills. Excellent oral and written skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively motivate, train and support staff and volunteers. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment and to provide leadership around changing priorities.
