Clarinet Faculty – Full-time

As part of a broad mission to expand its leadership position in the 21st century, The Juilliard School has embarked upon an ambitious plan to open access to its expertise on a global scale through interrelated site based initiatives.  Activities in the People’s Republic of China are an important part of this plan.

The Tianjin Juilliard School (TJS) is an innovative branch campus initiative within this global mission.  Over the past five years, the Juilliard administration and its visionary partners in Tianjin have worked together to bring this project from its initial concert, to the important milestone of receiving preliminary approval from the Ministry of Education, to the current, active planning of the school, so that its first class students can be welcomed Fall 2019.  Through a combination of highly selective graduate and pre-college programs, community-based open enrollment courses, and robust performances in a state-of-the-art facility, TJS has the potential to become a new educational and cultural landmark in the Asia-pacific region.

Responsibilities:

Teach applied lessons and lead weekly performance classes Coach chamber music Lead sectional rehearsals for student orchestra Teach in a secondary area as qualified Actively recruit students Perform with colleagues as part of the TJS resident faculty ensemble

Qualifications:

Fluency in English (the graduate program at TJS will be accredited by Middle States Commission on Higher Education, therefore all courses will be taught in English) Experience performing in professional Western orchestras or chamber ensembles Collegiate teaching experience preferred Performer of highest international caliber Interested in experience Chinese culture and open to the adventure of starting Juilliard’s first branch campus Entrepreneurial minded and comfortable with the uncertainties associated with a new venture

Performance opportunities in major venues in China and Asia.  Full-time resident faculty will become part of a vibrant TJS faculty ensemble, which will be the flagship performance ensemble of the school to perform and tour in China and Asia Opportunities to collaborate with Juilliard faculty in New York both in Tianjin and in New York
