Design and Merchandising Coordinator

SCAD seeks a design and merchandising coordinator to pursue design innovation and maintain the university’s merchandising brand integrities. In this role, you will assist with creative merchandising requests, develop new products and execute merchandising initiatives for SCAD-produced goods for the university’s retail outlets, including Art’s, Ex Libris bookstore, SCAD Atlanta Bookstore, Gryphon, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film, SCAD Museum of Art (TAD café), shopSCAD, and other special initiatives and events as assigned. Reporting to the graphic design and merchandising manager, you will develop merchandise for admission and other internal departments, including executive administration, exhibitions and events. You will analyze consumer demand and buyer satisfaction to ascertain competitive data and prepare regional/local assessments regarding trends and metrics to identify opportunities for growth. Additionally, you will work with independent contractors, and overseas and domestic manufacturers to initiate production of goods and ship all goods in coordination with the department’s production team. The ideal candidate has working knowledge of prototype construction methods for a variety of materials and products, as well as a familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite software, and experience designing and developing functional products. The willingness to learn a variety of manufacturing processes for the development of college-branded products is also essential to this role. You should demonstrate extensive knowledge of file preparation for the development and production of goods, a working knowledge of CAD software and the ability to assist in the creation of effective, user-friendly retail merchandise schematics. Candidates should be well organized and solution-oriented, and should demonstrate excellent communication skills and expertise in assortment planning, retail math and product presentation. You should work well in a fast-paced, high-energy team environment, and be capable of handling multiple, multicomponent projects and deadlines simultaneously. Requirements: -Bachelor’s degree -Minimum of two years of experience -Experience gathering and evaluating quotes negotiating and managing jobs, as well as working with vendors -Ability to apply business and management expertise to achieve financial and operational objectives -Knowledge and understanding of product management, marketing and merchandising
