Museum Education and Employment Program (MEEP) Intern

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the premier science, research and cultural institutions in the country. The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a Museum Education and Employment Program (MEEP) Intern to work with the MEEP program.

MEEP is a rigorous academic internship program within the American Museum of Natural History’s Education Department. MEEP interns are responsible for developing and presenting themed tours to visiting camp groups, and engaging visitors of all ages at educational touch carts in various Museum halls. The program provides on-the-job training, and exposure to science and museum related careers. Interns work closely with Museum educators and scientists, exploring scientific content and learning valuable skills for working with and teaching learners of all ages.

Responsibilities: In June, interns will take part in a rigorous training. Interns are responsible for learning the material given to them by science content and education experts. Interns will apply what they learn by practicing educational techniques and skills needed to successfully give tours in the Museum. In addition, each intern will create original, themed tours of two or more Museum halls.

During July and August, interns who successfully complete the training program will present their themed tours to visiting camp groups, and educate Museum visitors using educational touch carts with specimens and artifacts related to the halls.

The internship position is a part-time summer position. Each intern works 20 hours a week (Monday-Sunday) for 10 weeks during the summer.
