The Florida Museum of Natural History is looking to hire a full-time Museum Security Guard to open the building for early staff and contractor arrivals. The Security Guard will patrol and maintain security in exhibits, galleries, offices, shops, and classrooms at Powell Hall and other museum facilities. The Florida Museum of Natural History’s Security Department is primarily in place to protect the State of Florida’s collections and all its occupants. This will include the Exhibits and Public Programs facility at Powell Hall and the McGuire Center of Lepidoptera and Biodiversity. Specific duties include: Responding to unusual, suspicious, or extraordinary conditions. Investigating security violations. Preparing and filing reports on all activities and incidents. Serving as a liaison with the university and law enforcement personnel. Greeting and giving visitors the rules of the Butterfly Rainforest exhibit. Setting up and breaking down events the museum hosts, including lifting and moving furniture, tables, and chairs according to layouts and diagrams. Securing compound gates and building exit doors each evening and opening them in the morning for visitors and staff. Turning lights on or off as required and ensuring doors are properly locked. Turning exhibit components on or off as required. Providing directions and explanations to visitors. Acting as an educational liaison to visitors.
$11.00 per hour
High school graduate. Valid driver’s license. Two years of customer service experience. Able to remain standing or walking for up to 8 hours. Capable of assisting small children and/or disabled persons in the event of a building evacuation. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Bachelor’s degree in related field. First Aid/AED certification. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Two years experience in a security role.
