Public Spreadsheet with Salaries in the Arts

Rocking the arts world this week is news on a Google spreadsheet with anonymous salaries for all positions across the arts.

See it here to reach your own conclusions. You can submit your own salary anonymously here.

The Professional Organization for Women in the Arts will be holding its own similar survey soon. Sign up here for updates.

Some of my favorite career-related courses:

Gallery Hack

artnet News reports on a prevalent fraud in art gallery purchases where a hacker takes over a gallery email address, then sends fraudulent invoices to potential buyers. The amounts stolen this way can be high (over $18,000 in one case), since collectors are increasingly buying artwork online and over email.

Strike / Lockout

Citing unprecedented growth in the number of visitors (without the corresponding growth in customer service and security staffing), workers in those areas went on strike at the Louvre.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra seems to be headed toward a lockout.

Board of Directors Drama

Two art org boards seeing almost simultaneous drama are the ones at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre and Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Click on the links for juicy detail.

Facebook Artist-in-Residence Program

Just now learning about Facebook’s artist-in-residence and other art programs.

Professional Moves

Toledo Museum of Art hires new director of facilities.

Cone of silence drops over Vancouver Art Gallery after long-time director leaves.

Nataki Garrett named artistic director at Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
