Amuse Bartender (wage, Non-exempt)

Job Description:

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking energetic, attentive and creative individuals to join the Food Services Department as an Amuse Bartender.

This is a non-exempt position without benefits, scheduled to work up to approximately 28 hours per week on average and up to 1,450 hours annually (May 1 – April 30). Amuse Restaurant is a contemporary fine dining restaurant overlooking the Robins Sculpture Garden, featuring an innovative menu and fresh, local ingredients. Just like the works of art in the museum and on the walls of Amuse, visitors delight in new masterpiece dishes and cocktails.

Duties include:

Develops and use standard beverage recipes.

Prepares bars and keeps them stocked throughout the shift.

Stocks back of house areas.

Checks ID’s of guests and ensures that all forms of identification are valid.

Monitors alcohol inventory to maintain appropriate levels.

Completes consumption reports after shift.

Maintains tight controls on alcohol throughout shift.

Performs accurate recording of all alcohol transfers.

Preparing drinks based on serving size outlined by management and ABC guidelines.

Delivers a consistently high level of customer service to each guest.

Maintains an accurate cash drawer throughout the night and is able to account for any and all discrepancies.

Adheres to all safety and sanitary practices.

Prepares and serves consistent product.

Investigates and resolves customer complaints if needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Aptitude for providing excellent customer service.

Knowledge of recipes for various alcoholic beverages.

Knowledge of ABC policies and guidelines.

Ability to operate calmly, professionally and graciously in a fast paced, high-pressure workplace.

Ability to prepare beverages to specifications, adhere to standard and be attentive to quality, taste and presentation.

Knowledgeable of basic bar equipment including shaker, strainer, juicer, muddler, etc.

Ability to set up, maintain, break down bar.

Exceptional understanding of ABC policies and procedures.

Ability to read, write, comprehend and follow directions and instructions.

Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.

Ability to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear; and taste and smell.

Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Ability to stand or walk for up to 8 hours.

Ability to work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Ability to be prompt and punctual to scheduled shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience as a bartender and server.

Prior fine dining experience.

Former bartending education and training.

Prior experience in a fast-paced environment.

Special Requirements: 

Selected candidates must pass a criminal history background check.
