Job Summary: The Assistant Facilities Manager is a new position that will provide support to the Facilities Manager in maintaining the day-to-day operation of the Frist Art Museum building systems including, H.V.A.C., plumbing, fire control, electrical, roof, irrigation, and general building maintenance. This team member shares responsibility for monitoring the building energy management system (Automated Logic) and rotates with other facilities staff to be on 24-hour call for emergency, weather related, and mechanical failures within the facility.


Essential Job Functions: • Assists in maintaining the building, grounds, equipment and facility • Participates, and helps schedule the work performed by the facilities staff, custodial, and contractors • Implements a systematic maintenance program • Monitors the building’s energy management software system (Automated Logic) controlling the HVAC and humidity controls both on-site and remotely via laptop • Performs and coordinates preventive maintenance on all systems • Installs, moves, repairs, and removes equipment and utilities within the building • Sustains the condition of the museum’s plumbing and electrical installations • Completes repairs on art museum equipment, including lights and light fixtures • Assists in office moves and relocation • Contributes to setting up for programs, meetings, special events, building rentals, and other functions on art museum property • Work with volunteers in a positive and constructive manner • Performs other duties as may be necessary to support the mission and goals of the Frist Art Museum

Education and Experience: Minimum requirement of a high school diploma with additional technical H.V.A.C. and electrical training completed.  An associates or bachelor’s degree is preferred. Three-years minimum experience in building operations or construction is essential. Must be comfortable working with computers and have knowledge of the Microsoft Office software suite. The ideal candidate will show a capacity for leadership with some experience scheduling teams.


Skills and Abilities: • Must be a self-motivated, team player, with excellent communication skills • Must have experience in a variety of maintenance trades • Must have extensive knowledge of HVAC with a preference for candidates experienced with chilled water and boiler systems • Must have knowledge of maintaining kitchen equipment • Must have familiarity with telecommunications equipment • Must be EPA certified • Must have knowledge of building codes • Must be personable with good customer service skills • Must be able to read and interpret architectural drawings • Must be able to work well under pressure and short deadlines • Computer Assisted Design skills are preferred • Problem-solving and creative abilities are highly valued


Physical Demands: • Ability to bend, stoop, climb, push, pull, lift (approx. 40-50 lbs.). • Operate the following equipment: drills, hand tools, reciprocating saws, mechanical lifts, forklift, meters, H.V.A.C. gauges, dollies, carts, ladders, shovels, cell phone, computer, etc.


Working Conditions: Work will be performed in a standing / walking capacity 80% – 90% of the time. May be exposed to extreme cold and hot weather conditions.
