Overview

As part of the NY Decorative Arts team, work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in cataloguing, researching, valuation and promoting the New York Americana Sales. The focus will be on building additional expertise in American Furniture, Folk Art and Decorative Arts.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for working with Head of Department to ensure proper research and cataloguing of each sale; to include writing and researching catalogue notes and descriptions, condition reports, the assisting with the pre-sale photography process including color proofing, as well as any other sale-related assignments that may arise
  • Study with Head of Department and follow theira guidance in developing personal expertise
  • Assist Specialist with client visits and appraisals, including travel, follow-up and research as required
  • Sale related responsibilities including assisting with condition reports, tracking interest, setting reserves, assisting with exhibition set-up, staffing exhibitions and assisting prospective clients; conducting underbid recording and telephone bidding as required
  • Handle ad-hoc projects as requested by management
  • Assist with Marketing and Operations and other internal departments to ensure the Specialist Department’s objectives are effectively served and represented
  • Work with administrators to ensure a seamless service throughout the auction process
  • Operate at all times in accordance with the company’s rules on Compliance and Corporate Governance

Qualifications

  • Educational background in American Furniture, Folk Art and Decorative Arts or a related discipline; demonstrated interest in American Furniture, Folk Art and Decorative Arts, and a desire for professional development in the field
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills
