The Associate Director of Individual Giving is the key driver of a successful Individual Giving Program for the Annual Fund, at a transformational time for the Huntington Theatre Company. Boston’s leading professional theatre is in the midst of a five-year, $100 million comprehensive campaign which includes $25 million in annual fund support. Developing the strategies and innovating to achieve ambitious year over year growth goals is central to this position. Reporting to the Director of Development and working closely with the Chief Development Officer, the Associate Director of Individual Giving will employ best practices and industry knowledge to broaden and deepen the base of individual support. They will benefit from colleagues in the department who manage events, research and stewardship and provide administration, development operations and database support to achieve fundraising goals.
Directing the Individual Giving program of the Annual Fund as well as maintaining a personal portfolio of patron level donors will allow for this role to be both internal and public-facing.
- Interfacing closely with Director of Development, plan and implement an innovate/creative approach for managing and growing relationships with individual donors to raise $3.2M from individual donors in year one; with subsequent growth representing 25% increase within 3 years.
- Design new and execute existing donor engagement strategies to increase funding from current and lapsed donors.
- Take the Huntington’s successful young philanthropist program, The Hunt (donors age 40 and under) to the next level of engagement and generosity
- Develop robust cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans customized for each donor segment: supporters, patrons and benefactors
- Build and manage relationships with prospects and donors through meetings, personalized outreach, in person meetings, event invitations, and regular communications efforts
- Develop a prospect research strategy and oversee research plan to expand the pipeline of Major Gift prospects
- Plan, execute and track multiple direct mail and digital fundraising campaigns annually
- Supervise Manager of Research and Stewardship
- Report on and measure progress, re-evaluating plans each quarter to ensure progress is tracking for success and budgeted goals are achieved
Required knowledge & skills:
- Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques for Annual Fund growth
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals; able to build relationships with both broad-base and high net worth donors
- Ability to lead and work collaboratively in a team setting
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.
- A bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum 3 – 5 years progressive fundraising experience
- Knowledge of relational databases; Tessitura a plus
