The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is offering several excellent part-time Bartender opportunities. The part-time Bartender is responsible for serving light refreshments (drinks and ready-to-serve food) in a fast-paced setting and enhancing patrons’ overall experience within the elegant atmosphere of Powell Hall. Applicants must be available to work Friday/Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Typical shifts are 5:30pm-9:30pm on Fridays/Saturdays and 12:30pm-4:30pm on Sundays. This is a tipped position with a competitive hourly rate. Position reports to the Front of House Manager.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Each St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) front of house (FOH) employee will serve as an essential FOH customer services team member interacting with patrons, visitors and guests of the SLSO.  This highly visible position will embrace the opportunity to ensure that SLSO internal/external customers have welcoming, accommodating and memorable experiences.   Bartenders will serve the mission of the SLSO of enriching people’s lives with the power of music and to fully enjoy historic Powell Hall.

 FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

The bartender will provide efficient and exemplary customer service, selling food and beverage to patrons prior to each concert and during intermission.  Bartenders are responsible for setting up and breaking down their bars for each concert, remaining on duty through the end of intermission and leaving upon completion of closing duties and approval from Head Bartender.  Bartenders handle cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring charges are accurate and returning correct change to patrons, balancing the cash register.

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service:

Represent SLSO performers and the SLSO organization to a wide cross-section of the St. Louis community.

Attend scheduled SLSO customer service orientation and training programs.

Provide courteous directions to patrons based on knowledge of Powell Hall’s layout, accessible routes, and named spaces.

Anticipate patron needs intervening in a helpful manner as soon as possible.

Make reasonable attempts to resolve customer complaints and concerns or displays of unusual or disruptive behavior.Immediately seek the assistance the FOH Manager or House Manager if problems persist, impact other patrons, or appear threatening.

Food & Beverage Service:

Report at scheduled time dressed in standard SLSO attire with a neat appearance.

Perform pre-concert activities as outlined in the SLSO Bartender Handbook and opening checklists. Such activities will include stocking and setting up your beverage station, preparing your cash drawer, and attending the Front of House staff lineup.

During walk-in, be welcoming to patrons.Take and prepare food and beverage orders, accurately and efficiently completing each transaction.Make recommendations and upsell when possible.Check identification to ensure customers are of legal age to purchase alcohol.

Perform concert-duty activities as outlined in the SLSO Bartender Handbook.Such activities will include restocking and cleaning your station to prepare for intermission.

During intermission, engage with patrons.Take and prepare food and beverage orders, accurately and efficiently completing each transaction.Make recommendations and upsell when possible.Check identification to ensure customers are of legal age to purchase alcohol.

Perform post-intermission closing activities as outlined in the SLSO Bartender Handbook and closing checklists.Such activities will include breaking down and cleaning your beverage station, restocking, closing your cash drawer and running your sales report.

Fulfill role in emergency responses situations as outlined in SLSO emergency procedures.
