The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking an energetic, service-oriented professional to join the Food Services Department as the Best Café Assistant Manager. The Best Café Assistant Manager ensures quality products, guest satisfaction, and a clean, organized work environment. Duties include:
Performs all Manager-on-Duty financial and supervisory duties. Manages dining room and equipment, ensures everything is clean and in proper working order. Addresses any issues regarding food or service and makes appropriate adjustments to accommodate guests. Manages cash handling and paperwork processing effectively and in a timely manner. Ensures staff compliance with restaurant and museum rules and regulations. Assigns duties to café staff and oversees front of the house operations. Mentors and works to improve quality and skills of staff. Provides feedback and documents staff performance; addresses issues in a timely manner. Addresses safety issues and communicates with staff to assure a safe and healthy workplace. Initiates new ideas, keeps proper staffing levels, and anticipates business needs. Assists in the control of costs to meet standards set in the business plan. Confers with the Special Events Department to coordinate Café event activities Manages front of the house operations for special events, providing supervision and direction, either directly or via subordinate supervisors. Knowledgeable about VMFA with the ability to provide information to guests. Other duties as assigned.
Excellent customer service, organizational and restaurant operational skills. Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully to guests and staff members. Ability to resolve guest issues or concerns. Demonstrates good knowledge of principles and best practices in foodservice operation and special events. Knowledgeable in maintenance and care of culinary facilities, equipment, supplies, and materials. Knowledgeable of best practices in inventory control. Ability to monitor and maintain quality control standards. Ability to document, implement and enforce departmental policies. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to plan work schedules and assign duties Ability to supervise and train assigned staff. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Ability to operate calmly, professionally and graciously in a fast paced, high-pressure environment. Ability to read, write, comprehend and follow directions and instructions. Ability to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear; and taste and smell. Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand or walk for up to 10 hours. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
A degree from an accredited college or university in Food Service Management, Hospitality or related field or equivalent training and or experience. Prior food service experience in a fast-paced environment. ServSafe Certification. Knowledge of Alcohol Beverage Control policies and guidelines. Advanced knowledge of food, wine, and beer.
