The University of Florida is conducting a search for the Dean of the College of the Arts.

The performance and personal competencies required for the position include the following: Leadership: An established record of effective, inclusive, and collaborative leadership. The capacity to successfully engage and partner with the diverse stakeholders at a top ten American research University, ranging from upper administration to faculty, staff, and alumni to the local and national communities. A proven ability to strategically formulate and articulate a shared vision for the College of the Arts with a consultative management style, and to actively engage others in the implementation of said vision. The ability to recruit outstanding new faculty as well as retain and promote the College’s strongest faculty. A deep understanding and appreciation of shared governance between faculty and administration. The capacity to motivate and inspire others to strive continuously for excellence. The ability to recognize, foster and support excellence in scholarship, funded research, teaching, and artistic practice. A strong interdisciplinary ethic, and experience with strategic planning and program development. An entrepreneurial spirit.   Academic Credentials: An outstanding record of teaching, research or creative activity, and service appropriate to appointment to the rank of a tenured full professor in one of the schools of the College. A terminal degree in one of the College’s disciplines from an accredited institution is preferred. Candidates from a wide range of backgrounds are encouraged to apply.  Demonstrated Commitment to the Arts: A deep and longstanding commitment to art scholarship, production, or performance. Substantial knowledge of one of the fields of the arts within the college desirable. Preference given to someone with familiarity with more than one field and/or an interdisciplinary focus to research.  Financial Management and Administrative Experience: Experience and demonstrated success in academic administration, including budget and personnel management. Evidence that the applicant will provide effective representation of the college on the UF campus, and to the state of Florida. Proven success in managing a leadership team within a complex organization. Ability to manage resources strategically.  Fundraising Ability: Experience, proficiency, and a genuine desire to lead a broad and intensive fundraising effort. Strong record of increasing community support for arts and academic programs. Focus on Students: Genuine understanding of the teaching mission and the importance of providing students with the highest quality educational experience. Commitment to student success. Must understand and value the importance of a diverse student body.  Personal Qualities: Unquestioned, unassailable personal and academic integrity. A commitment to the mission of a global public research university. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Innovative and creative problem-solving, along with a willingness to take risks. Ability to foster a collegial, collaborative, inclusive and respectful work and educational environment.

Advertised Salary:

Negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Minimum Requirements:

An outstanding record of teaching, research or creative activity, and service appropriate to appointment to the rank of a tenured full professor in one of the schools of the College.

Preferred Qualifications:

A terminal degree in one of the College’s discipline from an accredited institution.
