Evaluation Research Assistant (wage, Non-exempt)

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking flexible, exceptionally organized, visitor-centric individuals with great communication skills to join the Art and Education Division as Evaluation Research Assistants. The availability to work evenings and weekends is required with sufficient availability for weekdays. Schedules rotate with advance notice to staff. Evening shift hours (Thursdays and Fridays):  3:30 – 9 p.m. Weekend shift hours (Saturdays and Sundays): 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Weekday shift hours (Mondays – Fridays): 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. These positions are non-exempt and without benefits, scheduled to work up to approximately 20 hours per week on average and up to 1,040 hours annually (May 1 – April 30). Evaluation Research Assistants provide critical support for visitor evaluation that aims to better understand permanent collection gallery experiences and museum visit satisfaction. This position assists in collecting data and visitor feedback through observations, interviews, focus groups, and telephone interviews. Evaluation Research Assistants are the primary point persons for processing data, which may include uploading audio files to transcriptionists, preparing files for quantitative and qualitative data entry, and organizing raw data in preparation for analysis. They prepare proposals, presentations, and reports for distribution. This includes proofreading, formatting, and assisting with designing data visualizations. These positions directly report to the Evaluation Specialist who is under the direction of the Interpretation Manager. Minimum Qualifications:

Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines. Strong customer service, oral and written communication skills. Excellent time management and coordination skills. Ability follow basic instructions. Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy. Demonstrated ability to prioritize duties and workload in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with common computer applications and graphic design with the ability to learn other applications quickly. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage varied responsibilities and communicate effectively with the team. Understanding of confidentiality and protocol. Ability to walk or stand for up to 8 hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree / coursework in social sciences, educational psychology, museum education, museum studies or equivalent professional experience and training. Prior experience supporting college / university professor or other researcher with qualitative or quantitative research projects. Prior experience with statistical or qualitative software packages (e.g. R, NVivo). Special Requirements:
