Position Title Exhibition Assistant

Position Summary

The Exhibition Assistant will work with staff and volunteers to ensure the safety and containment of butterflies and plants in the butterfly vivarium. Responsibilities include: interpreting educational panels; informing visitors about exhibit rules; answering visitor questions; feeding adult butterflies; handling pupae; monitoring emergence; record keeping; general laboratory cleaning and other duties as required.

Required Qualifications – Successful completion of at least one year of college level coursework in a natural science or education related field. Combination of High School Diploma or its equivalent and 3-4 years of experience working closely with animals also accepted. – Available to work evenings, holidays and weekends as needed. – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience working with invertebrates and teaching in informal settings is preferred.

Physical Demands – Ability to work in a tropical environment of 80 degrees and 80% humidity.
