Overview

The pre-eminent expression of lifelong learning in the United States, Chautauqua Institution comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 people visit Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages — all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village. As a community, we celebrate, encourage and study the arts and treat them as integral to all of learning, and we convene the critical conversations of the day to advance understanding through civil dialogue.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for dining room readiness and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the dining room
  • Must work with a sense of urgency and without constant direction to complete tasks:
    • Restock items as needed throughout the café
    • Clear and clean tables and clean/organize chairs inside Café and outside seating areas
    • Empty all trash cans inside and outside Café as needed
    • Clean and sanitize various other areas of the café as needed
  • Must:
    • Be able to attend orientation and all subsequent training
    • Follow all company policies
    • Possess superior teamwork skills
    • Possess positive attitude through speech and body language
    • Be responsible to uphold uniform policy, personal hygiene, and grooming standards and present in a professional manner
    • Embrace and reflect the company culture and values as stated in the Culture/Mission Statement to reach each common goal
    • Perform all other duties as assigned
    • Be willing to be cross-trained into other positions
    • Work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
    • be able to stand and walk as constant conditions
    • be able to stand frequent handling of objects, reaching, maneuvering and continually positioning of oneself to perform assigned tasks
    • be able to physically grasp and transport items up to 50 pounds, including kitchen supplies and dishware
    • be able to work a flexible schedule to include opening shifts and/or midnight or later closing shift

Qualifications

  • Prior bussing experience in high volume restaurant operation is beneficial, but not required.
  • Must have effective communication skills to interact with guests and team members
