The George Mason University Computer Game Design and Virginia Serious Game Institute, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), seeks qualified candidates for the Assistant Research Professor of Serious Game Design to start Fall 2018. The role of the Assistant/Associate Professor of Serious Game Design is to advance the field of serious games design and development in one or more fields of study such as public health, medicine, public policy, criminology, and education by conducting funded traditional and applied research. Ideally, the selected candidate will be actively engaged in funded serious game-related research at the time of application. In addition the selected candidate will develop an undergraduate concentration in Serious Games with an emphasis on undergraduate research, and develop and teach one or two specifically assigned graduate game-related courses in the Computer Game Design Program. Candidates should be experienced and knowledgeable about all facets of the serious game design & development field, including technical and artistic advances, and current research. Key Responsibilities:
Teaches a 1-2 course load each academic year from approved curriculum and develop future undergraduate courses in serious game design and development; Motivates students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process, and engage undergraduate and gradate students in serious games research; and Maintains expertise in subject area and conduct funded research.
Actively seek external private, federal and foundation grants and contracts to support research and creative endeavors; and Participate in professional game design and development-related organizations and conferences.
Ability to successfully interact with the academic, business and governmental communities; Possess an approach that fosters a respectful, non-threatening workplace environment; Demonstrated commitment and ability to work collaboratively within a complex work environment; Minimum 3 years teaching at an accredited institute of higher education; Presented and published Serious Games research findings at a national level; History of securing significant foundation or government grants and contracts to support research; Terminal degree required; Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills required;and Proven critical thinking, problem solving and judgmental skills.
